LEADERSHIP 49

Applications for Leadership 49 Year 11 will open in May 2024.

What is Leadership 49?

Leadership takes many forms. It is about caring about the place you live, investing in your own personal growth, and stepping up to work with others to make a difference. We, as a community, are stronger when we appreciate differences in others, engage in respectful conversations, and work together. As program of MSU Park County Extension, Leadership 49 is a nine-month leadership development program for Park County citizens. Comprised of monthly day-long sessions, community-based experiences, and a group project, participants develop leadership skills, increase their knowledge about challenges and opportunities, and network with community groups, leaders, businesses, elected officials, and others.

A group of 15-18 participants will be selected from a geographic and career cross-section of the county. Successful applicants demonstrate strong interest in and commitment to the program. Monthly sessions will be held September – April on the first Friday from 9 am – 4 pm, except for the overnight Team Building Retreat which will be held on the third weekend in September. Program requirements include:

  • Mandatory attendance at the Team Building Retreat September 15-16, 2023 and Graduation Retreat May 9-10, 2024
  • Attendance at eight remaining monthly sessions
  • Participation in the group project
  • Additional time will be required outside of the monthly sessions to work on the project

Applicants should provide detailed answers. These assist the selection committee in creating a diverse cohort. A $350 tuition fee is charged to help cover the costs of administering the program, including meals. Transportation is not included in tuition. If tuition is a barrier, inquire about financial assistance. Tuition is due before the first class. Employers have covered tuition in previous years. Applications and two reference letters must be received by June 30, 2023. One reference should be a character reference. Hard copies are available for pickup at MSU Park County Extension, 119 S 3rd Street in Livingston. Please direct any questions to 222-4156 or mary.keyes@montana.edu. Two references are required in order for your application to complete. Reference form must be received by July 7, 2023, for your application to be considered.
